Teaching Session #45 - Sunday 9th January 2022 at 6.30pm
Sects and the Bible

Main speaker - David Wilkins
Host for the evening - Graham Wilkins

David writes:

"But It’s in the Bible!
If the Mormons or the Jehovah’s Witnesses have ever come knocking on your door you will have heard them insist that what they are telling you is biblical. More than that they will all insist that what they are telling you is the only possible way to read the Bible in the first place. If you challenge this, they are likely to bamboozle you with a selection of verses which appear at first glance to support them.  Examples are:  that Jesus was not divine; that we need superior knowledge to understand the Bible properly; our Bible translations aren’t as reliable as we think, and that the Trinity was never a biblical doctrine so how can any “real” Christian believe it? It’s not just these sects either, many others appear to be Christian until you realise their biblical teachings are at best, odd.

So how do all these different sects use the Bible to come to these weird and wacky conclusions? And what do we need to know about them so we can at least have an answer if they come to the door? In this Bible Stream, David will show that similar strange teachings of the Bible were known and warned about by Paul and Jesus himself. And most of all, what to look out for when discerning what is and what is not true biblical teaching."

Have your Bible ready, bring an open and enquiring mind and as always plenty of questions.
