Teaching Session #44 - Sunday 14th November 6.30pm
The Book of Esther
Main speaker - Martyn Saunders
Host for the evening - Bernie Pinner
Martyn writes:
"Esther is read during Purim in synagogues with much shouting down of the bad guys and cheering for the good ones. Come and hear about this Old Testament tale of strong independent women who know how to stand up to their men even in the most oppressive patriarchal system of the ancient near east. Consider the structure of the book which shows how one part of the story is the key to the whole book. Notice how God is in every aspect of the book and yet not mentioned by name. Maybe you were born "for such a time as this".
The evening is led by Martyn Saunders, vicar of St Philip and St James, Walderslade and now also part of the team bringing St John's Chatham back to life."
Have your Bible ready, bring an open and enquiring mind and as always plenty of questions.
